A Kuils River ward councillor warns jobseekers of a scam doing the rounds.
Wouter de Vos, Ward 11 councillor, said someone who calls himself Muneeb is promising street-cleaning jobs to desperate jobseekers. In return he requests a fee of R50 to R250 and that they send him copies of their bank statements and identity documents.
De Vos said the scammer makes use of a WhatsApp group to communicate. He promises to provide PPE (protective clothing) and transport to the “job” but never shows up at the time arranged.
“I have confirmed with the City’s Solid Waste Department that this is a scam,” he said. “No jobseeker would ever need to pay for an EPWP (the City’s public works programme) job opportunity.”
