Kuils River police welcomed a new head of visible policing (Vispol) into their ranks recently.

Lt Col Nokwanda Harmans, promoted from the rank of captain and shift commander at the railway police in Bellville to Vispol commander in Kuils River, started her new role on 2 October.

She said she started her police career at Goodwood police in 2007. “In February 2013 I went to the Plattekloof Lab (Forensics Laboratory), where I was stationed until June 2018, when I moved to the railway police.”

As Vispol commander Harmans oversees daily operations of mostly uniformed officers and all allocated police vehicles at Kuils River police.

Local police spokesperson WO Liesel Beukes said Kuils River police have four shifts (change of officers on duty), which Harmans is in charge of. “She is responsible for the basic operations of the police station – daily operational duties, executing of complaints and controls, crime prevention, everything.”

Asked about her vision for Kuils River police, Harmans said: “Firstly, we as police officials have a mandate of making sure the community is safe. My vision is to stick to my mandate, to create a safe and secure environment for the community of Kuils River.”
