A lifeguard from Kleinvlei is heading to the Gold Coast in Australia and will be participating in the World Interclub Lifesaving Championships.

Darryl Lindt (25) only learned how to swim three years ago and started lifesaving two years ago. “When the winte comes you cannot train track as one guy joining our group for training and he promoted the idea to the group about lifesaving and what’s it all about. At the time I was the only one really keen on taking up a new chapter in my life so we exchange numbers and started communicating with each other and then soon after Avron Manchest started teaching me how to swim so that l can become a Lifegaurd,” says Lindt.

According to him his dream with lifesaving is to make the beaches more safe and enjoyable for the public without them having to be concerned about their safety. “With this World Championships I’m dreaming of at least winning a medal and have the most fun possible while learning and gaining alot of international experience, since it will be my first appearance on the international stage for anything.

“I stay in Kleinvlei, Eersteriver and is a former learner from Kleinvlei High School where l also still assist currently and in the last 3-4 years in a coaching capacity for both athletics and cross Country. l am a level 1 and 2 Athletics South Africa coach and is also studying towards a National Certificate in Fitness and I’ve helped a few athletes already getting their provincial colours,” he says.

He is a lifeguard at the Clifton Surf Lifesaving Club and a recently qualified Inflated Rescue Boat (IRB crewman) at the club.

They will be leaving for Australia on 27 August, but still needs your help to achieve his goals. If you feel generous contact Lindt on 064 391 2883.
