The much-loved Natural Goods Market at Century City has entered a new chapter with its exciting rebrand as the Slow Sunday Market on Central Park. The first edition of the season took place on Sunday 28 September, bringing together foodies, families and friends for a laid-back day filled with flavour, creativity and community spirit.
For years the market has been part of Century City life, offering a place for locals and visitors to meet, share good food and enjoy one of Cape Town’s most scenic urban parks. The rebrand reflects this essence; an invitation to slow down, savour and soak up the atmosphere.
A foodie’s dream
Market-goers were spoiled for choice with a spread of eats ranging from stonebaked pizzas, shawarmas, sushi, bao buns, empanadas and loaded nachos to sweet treats like maritozzo cream buns, churros and waffles. Drinks flowed with barista coffee, smoothies, craft beer, bubbly and gin cocktails, making it the perfect Sunday outing.
“Beyond the culinary delights, visitors browsed artisan stalls offering jewellery, clothing, candles, books, toys, eco-friendly products and more, each stall tells its own story of creativity and craftsmanship. The Club House hosted an inspiring art exhibition by Art on the Park, with some mellow tunes as backdrop.”
Family fun all around
The Slow Sunday Market also made sure the little ones were entertained. Children bounced on jumping castles, joined in lawn games and enjoyed candy floss, gelato and popcorn.
Special activities on Sunday included pot plant decorating at 10:00 and a reptile show at 11:00, which proved to be crowd favourites.
The friendly Intaka Island mascot, Captain Feathers, was also on hand for photos and high-fives, while the popular Century City Tramway offered mini adventures through the precinct.
The Slow Sunday Market is set to return throughout the season on the following dates: 26 October, 30 November, 25 January, 22 February, 29 March and 26 April. Entry and parking are free, and the market runs from 09:00 to 14:00.
So, grab a blanket, bring a friend and make Central Park your Sunday escape, where the pace is slow, the flavours are plenty and the memories are waiting to be made.
