South African writer Jamie Conway has released her second book, Naked Leftovers, a bold and evocative collection of poetry that blends the ancient with the modern, the mythical with the raw truths of today.

Launched on 20 May, the book is now available globally on Amazon.

“In Naked Leftovers, ancient stories collide with contemporary passions,” says Conway.

‘Born from a place of inspiration’

“It invites readers on a journey that defies convention and ignites the senses.” Through a distinctly queer lens, the book offers a radical reinterpretation of old narratives—like the forbidden romance between Eve and Lilith—challenging societal norms and delving deep into the complexities of love, desire, and identity.

Written in the span of just one weekend during a writing challenge late last year, Naked Leftovers was born from a place of inspiration and intimacy.

Inspiration

“It was inspired by my partner, India,” Conway shares.

“This book is kind of my love letter to her.” While the core of the book was written quickly, the editing process took more time, allowing the themes to settle and evolve.

The book follows Conway’s successful debut, 2 A.M. Debris, which explored healing and the journey from toxic entanglements to the light of genuine love. “Naked Leftovers is somewhat of a sequel,” Conway explains.

“While the first book was about understanding love’s light after darkness, this one explores love in its purest form, and examines our duality as intelligent beings and untamed creatures.”

queer literature

At just 27, Jamie Conway is already building a strong voice in contemporary queer literature.

While currently working as a copywriter for an Australian company, Conway continues to pursue their creative passions—working on a full-length poetry collection set for release next year, and even teasing a novel to follow.

With Naked Leftovers, Conway invites readers not just to read, but to reflect, question, and feel—offering a mirror to those on their own path of self-discovery.
