We, the Durbanville Islamic Society, would like to thank you for bringing our plight forward for the allocation of municipal grounds in aid of a mosque.
Since the article “House of discontent” (TygerBurger, 7/06) was printed we have received an overwhelming response from Durbanville residents. However, we must mention a few issues:
. We feel the headline was misleading.
. Not a single vehicle from the Durbanville Islamic Society was parked in the road that Friday 26 May; every vehicle was parked on the field.
. Whilst we have no recollection of litter, we cannot dispute that on occasion a coffee cup was left behind. The impression is being created that we leave the premises untidy, which is not true. Cleanliness is one of the cornerstones of Islam.
. Making reference to the gentleman of the neighbourhood watch who supported our plight, it should have been said that he “was” head of the neighbourhood watch and not “is”. That was an error on our part.
We really appreciate the support received and endeavour to work with the community to ensure that we abide and integrate as a society.
We invite residents to contact our chairman with any issues and we will resolve them in the best manner possible. Our aim is to integrate peacefully and add value to Durbanville.
