No arrests have been made since Darren Maggott (24) was
allegedly killed by an officer from the Maitland Flying Police Squad on
Thursday 10 May.

Maggott’s mother, Marina Nagy, says when contacting the
investigating officers, they simply say ‘the investigation is still in
progress’ even though there’s footage and a case has been opened by the state.

“It’s difficult to accept the loss of my son,” she says.

“I haven’t let him go to rest in the memorial wall at our
Catholic church because something is telling me to do so when justice is
served.”

According to Moses Dlamini of the Independent Police
Investigative Directorate (IPID), the matter is still under investigation.
Dlamini told TygerBurger that witness statements and video footage were
obtained.

“We are awaiting technical reports and once we have received
them we will be in a position to conclude our investigation,” says Dlamini.

Nagy is awaiting an appointment with the investigator and
says she will not let the matter go to rest until justice has been served.
