Bishop Lavis police arrested a male suspect over the weekend for being in possession of an illegal firearm, ammunition and drugs.

Provincial police spokesperson, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, says the man was arrested with a firearm without a licence at an address in Bishop Lavis.

“Police followed up on information they received. On arrival at the address, they arrested the suspect who was found with a 9mm pistol with one live round of ammunition, as well as dagga and tik.”

Rwexana says the suspect is due to appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s Court on Monday 29 January.

“Provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula, commended the officers because each firearm off our streets saves lives.”
