Police in the province are tightening the net in an effort to eradicate the illegal distribution and depletion of living marine resources.
This after 1 824 units of abalone with an estimated street value of R700 000 were found last week at a residence in Parklands.
WO Joseph Swartbooi says police officers attached to Operation Restore, deployed in the Western Cape to combat crime, reacted to information of suspicious activities at a premises in Parklands on Monday 28 October.
“They monitored the location and conducted a search and seizure operation at the residence in Carlton Crescent at about 11:30 which resulted in the recovery of 1 824 units of abalone with an estimated street value of R700 000,” Swartbooi says.
Three men between the ages of 23 and 45 were detained for the possession of abalone without a valid permit.
Once charged the suspects are expected to make a court appearance in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court on the mentioned charge
