A 64-year-old woman is in a critical condition after her husband allegedly set her on fire.
According to a report by Elsies River police, officers were called out to a local day hospital in Balvenie on Saturday (11 February) at 02:15.
Police spokesperson Captain Daphne O’Reilly says on their arrival they found that the woman was being treated for third degree burns.
“It is alleged that the husband of the victim poured petrol on her and set her alight. The crime scene is in Bestenbier Avenue in Balvenie and officers found minor burn damage to a curtain and table cloth inside the residence.”
She says police are investigating an attempted murder case while the woman remains in a critical condition in hospital.
