Delft police are on the hunt for a suspect who allegedly chased and killed Wassiema Matthews (17).
According to a report from Delft police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Brain Daniels, officers were called to Delft Clinic at 13:15 on Wednesday (15 February) where they were informed of the death of the teen.
He says they were informed that the teen, a Grade 10 learner at Roosendal High School, was chased by an unknown suspect in Vuurlelie Street.
“A witness revealed that they heard screaming sounds and saw the girl run into the yard of a house in the street. A male pointed a firearm at the girl and a shot was fired. The witness then saw the girl collapse in the yard. She was transported to the [local] clinic by private transport and was declared dead on arrival.”
He says the teen sustained a single gunshot wound to her lower back. Police are now calling on anyone with information about the incident to come forward and call the investigating officer on 071 891 6513 or the police station on 021 954 9000.
“All information will be dealt with in the strictest confidentiality. The motive for this killing is unknown at this stage.”
