Kraaifontein police are looking for the driver of a vehicle that struck down and injured a couple walking with their nine-year-old son in Joostenbergvlakte last Monday evening (15 August) between 20:00 and 21:00 in Lucullus Street.
“A bakkie drove past us from the front blinding us with his bright headlights on. As it passed my husband motioned to him about switching the brights off. The driver then turned in somewhere and the next thing it drove back and struck us from behind. The one moment I was upright, the next I was on the ground and I heard my son screaming,” says Bessie Bezuidenhout.
Security camera footage has since shown that the bakkie Bezuidenhout referred to had turned the corner behind them and drove away, while at the same time another vehicle (not a bakkie) approached the couple from behind.
“It was not the bakkie that hit the couple, but there is some indication that one of two vehicles could have knocked the couple down. The cameras could not capture the actual incident, only the vehicles in the street and as it was already dark the footage is vague and it is difficult to make out the colour or type of the vehicles on the footage,” says Dave Gale from the Joostenbergvlakte CPF subforum.
The woman sustained a broken vertebra and her husband a broken foot in four places and minor rib injuries. They were transported to local hospitals in the area.
The investigation continues.
