The Flying Squad arrested four people, between the ages of 27 and 39, after being alerted about a white Nissan NP200 bakkie roaming the streets of Kraaifontein on Wednesday 7 March.
Provincial police spokesperson, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, says the bakkie was spotted in the parking lot of a shopping centre in the area around 16:10. “Upon searching the vehicle three firearms were confiscated. They include a one Vector nine-millimetre pistol with magazine and nine rounds of ammunition; one Astra nine-millimetre pistol with magazine and 17 rounds of ammunition; and one Dash Pod semi-automatic rifle with magazine and 14 rounds of ammunition.”
The serial numbers of all three firearms had been removed. It was also discovered that the vehicle had been hijacked in Nyanga during February 2018.
“The suspects are from Lower Crossroads, Gugulethu and Khayelitsha. They are expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court, once they have been charged.
“Police Management commended all the role players for their involvement in the fight against violent crime,” says Rwexana.
