Maitland police are appealing for information to help identify a Woodstock man who was stabbed and killed in Paarden Eiland this week.

According to a police report, officers were called out to Nereide Street on Wednesday at about 15:10 where the man’s body was found on the cycle path.

Police spokesperson Constable Lorencial Johnson says officers found the body with a single stab wound and no identification.

“An eyewitness alleged that the deceased came from Woodstock side with another unknown person following him from the same direction. The two men were allegedly arguing and the one stabbed the other. The deceased was wearing a black jacket and blue jeans. He also had a necklace of the African continent around his neck.”

Anyone with information on the deceased or the suspect is asked to call Detective Sergeant Steven Pritchard on 021 506 9400 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
