A mother and son from Brackenfell were killed and several others injured in a head-on collision involving a minibus-taxi and light motor vehicle in Kraaifontein yesterday (Monday 25 September).
The accident took place on Botfontein Road in the direction of Kraaifontein yesterday at about 13:30.
The deceased Benita van der Merwe (49) and Andries Bester who resided in Protea Heights sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead on the scene of the accident.
“Another passenger in the taxi, who sustained critical injuries, was trapped and needed to be freed with jaws of life,” a paramedic on the scene, Kobus Kotze from Titanium Securitas ambulance services, said.
“Nine other people in the taxi who sustained minor to critical injuries were transported to nearby hospitals.”
Brackenfell police were on the scene conducting an investigation.
A case of culpable homicide was being investigated.
