All this in an effort to raise R40 000 through the cycling campaign #get400. The team, T2, reached out to 400 individuals to pledge R100 to the cause and support the programmes run by Raising Hope SA.
Raising Hope SA is an organisation started by Ashlyn Klinkradt (15) from Durbanville to inspire and motivate families impacted by disabilities. It was her brother, David, who was pulled along in a buggy by cyclist Brett Chilcott from Pinelands, with support cyclists Gavin Roussouw from Observatory and William Keith from Somerset West, to raise awareness of the possibility of inclusion of people with disabilities in a sporting environment.
The team completed the event in almost six and a half hours.
The immediate needs of Raising Hope SA are donations of dried or tinned food, which will be included in food hampers to assists 35 families with children with neurological disabilities – all learners at Paarl School in Brackenfell – during the December school holidays. Cash donations of R100 are needed for each family per week for four weeks, totalling R14 000.
