Goodwood Community Policing Forum’s treasurer Lionel Jacobs has died at the age of 67.
Jacobs is described as a kindhearted person loved by all. He dedicated his life to serving. He was a well-known figure in the baseball and soccer community. He was always smiling and quick with a chirp, say CPF members.
Supporting and developing
According to John Ross, chair of the Goodwood Community Policing Forum (CPF), Jacobs’s passion for supporting and developing vulnerable children in Goodwood was unsurpassed. “He gave up his time to give these children mathematics lessons once a week. He gave many of them employment in his business and taught them how to be economically independent.”
Jacobs suffered a stroke in July this year but made a remarkable recovery.
According to Jas Visser, public relations officer of the Goodwood CPF, “we were pleasantly surprised to see Lionel at the Woman’s Day event, just a few of days after he was discharged.”
In high spirits
According to Visser, Jacobs was in high spirits and very jovial, full of jokes. But as the event went on, one could see that he was certainly tired. “Unfortunately, I did not see Lionel after this event and was very shocked to hear of his re-admission to hospital, with kidney failure,” Visser said.
“Lionel will truly be missed by us all, as a friend and fellow committee member of our CPF.”
Ross said he had known Lionel since 1975. “Lionel and I became very close friends since he convinced me to stand for Goodwood CPF chair in 2017.”
Jacobs was treasurer of the CPF until his passing. He was fondly referred to as “Pravin” at CPF meetings. “Lionel leaves a huge hole in our hearts and community,” Ross said.
Jacobs was 67, turning 68 in September. He was not married and had no children.
