Overlooking the scenic scapes from the 360 Sky Lounge at the Bloemendal Wine Estate, the Greater Tygerberg Partnership (GTP) hosted their third annual exclusive dinner with the Executive Mayor of Cape Town, Geordin Hill-Lewis, on Wednesday 12 February.
In partnership with Sanlam, this evening was dedicated to creating meaningful connections and inspiring change with lasting impact.
Speakers graced the podium from an assortment of businesses and partnerships, unpacking projects that aim to expand economic growth and inclusive opportunities in areas like Bellville, Tyger Valley and surrounds in the northern suburbs.
State of progress
The State of Bellville report was illustrated in parts by partners detailing progress and job creation seen in sectors like the textile industry, small business incubators and waste management efforts achieved by collaborations among local stakeholders.
Welcomed with applause, Hill-Lewis shared what motivates the City’s sense of purpose: “There needs to be a great sense of urgency in our country about growing our economy much faster. Our children and our grandchildren will not be able to live in a South Africa that is safe and secure and offers opportunity and a better life than we all have, unless we can get our economy growing faster, unless we can get people out of poverty and into work opportunities.”
Speakers share
The CEO of GTP, Warren Hewitt, expressed the honour of hearing progress reported by Mayco member for economic growth James Vos, who spoke about driving business growth, and Hill-Lewis, who highlighted the power of partnership in shaping thriving communities.
“The food was beautiful, wine flowed, and it was wonderful to share such an enjoyable experience together,” said Hewitt.
“After dinner, we had the pleasure of hearing from our guest speaker, Leon Daniels, who shared his views and insights on urban challenges, adding valuable perspective to the evening’s discussions.”
Possessing an exceptional record of delivery and performance at the highest level of private and public sector organisations, Daniels is recognised for his world-class experience, expertise and knowledge of public sector transport in the UK, Europe and Far East.
Daniels illustrated his experiences abroad and ways it translates to the South African context and potential futures.
Award-winning efforts
The feast could not conclude before the award ceremony honoured individuals and organisations that have been keys to unlocking local communities’ successes in 2024:
- Langanani Muleyo received title of Better Together Change Maker.
- Mould Empower Serve (MES) was awarded yet another GTP Stakeholder of the Year award.
- The GTP Impact Contributer Award was claimed by eWasa.
“We look forward to continuing the conversations sparked on the night, especially around our waste and placemaking projects. Let’s turn ideas into action—please connect with us to explore ways we can partner for impact,” Hewitt concluded with thanks.
