GrandWest was the venue for the prestigious Sigma Africa Summit 2025. While the event was privately organised, not hosted by GrandWest itself, the venue’s commitment to responsible gaming and community development still played a significant role in the summit’s overall success.

The questions of responsible gambling and community involvement were among the key topics addressed during the summit, and GrandWest’s leadership in both areas was brought into focus.

GrandWest is part of the Sun International group, a company with a longstanding commitment to responsible gaming. Mervyn Naidoo, general manager of GrandWest, proudly shares: “As a group Sun International is proud of its legacy in responsible gaming. Twenty-five years ago we founded the National Responsible Gambling Programme (NRGP), and today we are proud the organisation has grown into the industry body that it now is.”

This initiative was one of the first of its kind, and it remains a cornerstone of GrandWest’s approach to ensuring a safe and responsible gaming environment.

On the casino floor GrandWest actively displays NRGP messaging that serves as a constant reminder to guests of the importance of responsible gambling. In addition, casino staff undergo mandatory NRGP training, enabling them to identify and address potential gambling problems.

“Our staff are trained to handle situations where problem gambling might be present, ensuring that we maintain a safe and supportive environment for all,” Naidoo said.
