TSIBA held a Women’s Day Event on Friday 25 August, with Goodwood resident Kim Terry as one of their keynote speakers.
As the landscape of modern business continues to see dynamic and transformative shifts, the emergence of novel job opportunities and side business ventures is reshaping traditional paradigms, shares Graham Moore, executive director of sustainability at the TSIBA Business School.
Terry is an entrepreneur extraordinaire, whose busy (and mostly productive) life, in this season is centred around her two daughters.
From an early age, independence was important and as the years went by, flexible independence was the focus – being a creative entrepreneur was the only career option for her.
Terry is proof that your academic qualifications do not need to determine your career path.
During her studies for a three-year diploma in tourism management, she passionately pursued a logistical management position in the musical and entertainment sector. She also spent six months at a hospitality internship in Florida, USA.
She later went on to study graphic and web design – her other passion, and her first business, Kreative Konceptionz, was born. Kreative Kraftz was launched on the back of this company – she ran art and craft workshops for children and ladies. “I went and did the worst possible job, working for Amazon. Working night shift for three months straight,” says Terry. This reminded her why she is an entrepreneur.
Passion-driven
According to Terry all her businesses are passion-driven. After the birth of her first daughter, she wanted to explore her questions about her body and womanhood and opened Feeling Sexy – a company offering sex-ed workshops and bachelorette parties. Terry has been featured on Expresso show and Good Hope FM with her business ventures.
She started her next venture, Kreative Kidz, with the funds of the sale of the Feeling Sexy business but needed to park that idea as she was diagnosed with Large B-cell lymphoma in December 2020. “I took my journey and put it into a business plan,” says Terry.
Terry had numerous treatments including alternative remedies that inspired her to be trained up in Bioresonance and Body Contouring, which led her to set up her current company Fénix Vida – based on her journey.
According to Terry it is important to encourage women to grow out of their comfort zone and to empower themselves.
