The Goodwood Community Policing Forum (CPF) is raising funds to enhance the Victim Support Room at the local police station. This initiative aims to provide a safe, private space for victims of crime, particularly survivors of gender-based violence. The upgraded room will offer women and children a welcoming and secure environment where they can receive the support they need during difficult times.
“We plan to upgrade the room by replacing furniture such as desks, chairs, and cupboards, painting the walls, and repairing or replacing light switches and blinds. Additionally, we want to include a bed for children, especially for victims who arrive in the middle of the night, as well as a kids’ table with activities and toys to keep them occupied,” says Nafees Panday, the public relations officer of the Goodwood CPF.
Businesses and individuals can support this initiative by making monetary contributions or donating materials. Those interested in donating in kind are encouraged to contact the CPF chair or project coordinator.
“Through these improvements, we hope to create a space where women and children feel safe, comfortable, and supported. This will help victims report crimes more confidently and recall events more accurately, ensuring that all necessary details are provided,” adds Panday.
The Victim Support Room is staffed by trained victim support assistants, and all necessary paperwork is completed in the room to minimize additional stress for victims.
“Your contribution, no matter how big or small, will help provide a vital resource for our community,” concludes Panday.
