Girlfriend in court over licensing scam

A Mitchell’s Plain woman has been arrested for her part in an alleged licensing scam after her boyfriend was arrested in Belhar.


A 29-year-old Mitchell’s Plain woman, whose Belhar boyfriend was arrested for an illegal licensing scam, has appeared in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on similar charges yesterday (9 February).

According to a report from the Hawks, the girlfriend of Elton Bernard Abrahams, who was arrested in Belhar in November, was arrested by the anti-corruption unit for her alleged part in an illegal vehicle licensing and police clearance scheme.

Hawks spokesperson, Captain  Lloyd Ramovha, says cash worth millions was confiscated from Abrahams during his arrest. His arrest, was followed by that of an accomplice in De Aar.

“The matter has been adjourned until 16 February, where the trio are expected to appear alongside each other. They are facing charges relating to fraud, corruption, money laundering as well as racketeering. Investigations have gathered momentum and additional arrests cannot be ruled out.”
