Get ready to vote: By-elections in Brackenfell and Kuils River are set for October, with registration this weekend

  • The IEC has announced by-elections in Ward 8 of Brackenfell and Kuils River, scheduled for 23 October.
  • Voter registration for the by-elections will take place this weekend at several local stations.
  • Eligible voters are urged to ensure their registration is up to date before the voter roll closes on 13 September.

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) Western Cape, on Monday (2 September) announced municipal by-elections in Ward 8 of Brackenfell and Kuils River, which will take place on Wednesday 23 October.

The ward-councillor post became available after the resignation of the last incumbent at the end of July.

There are currently 23 339 registered voters in the ward.Voter-registration weekend for the by-election in the ward will take place this coming weekend, Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 September.Registration stations will open at 08:00 and close at 17:00 at Rostgemeente AFM Brackenfell, Bastion Primary School, Die Gemeente met Oop Deure, NG Kerk De Eike, Brackenfell Community Church and Curro Brackenfell. 

Citizens 16 years and older as well as voters’ resident in the ward are requested to visit our registration stations either to register to vote or the check or update their registration details.To register, eligible voters in the affected wards must be in possession of either a green barcoded ID book, a Smartcard ID or a valid Temporary Identity Certificate to be allowed to register.The Proclamation of the By-Election is scheduled for Friday 13 September, which is also the opening of candidate nomination and also the last day of voter registration for the By-Election.

Voter registration will continue online and at the IEC local office during office hours until the Voters’ Roll for the By-Election closes on Friday, 13 September 2024.To find out where you are registered you can check your registration status online at www.elections.org.za or alternatively, SMS your ID number to 32810 at a cost of R1 per SMS or WhatsApp Hi to our WhatsApp Chabot at 060 088 0000.
