Children with special needs shined on the catwalk on Saturday morning; it was their day to be celebrities, and show their mettle amid loud cheers of family and friends.
In its sixth year the Different is Cool Fashion Show is not only an annual highlight, but a legacy project for the Daniel and Friends Fund, an organisation that aims to support families affected by special needs.
Shining Brighter Together
The school hall at Brackenfell Primary was beaming with colourful balloons giving form to the day’s Shining Brighter Together – and shine did they shine in the bold shirts sponsored by the Foschini Group.
Watching the fashion show, you were either brimming with laughter or had a joyful tear to the eye.

Director Lianie le Roux encapsulated the message from the special needs community when she said: “Its not about fitting in. Nor is it the strength of the body that matters, but the strength of the spirit.”
The NPO turning ten this year, Le Roux expressed her gratitude for the many victories the organisation celebrated over the past decade, despite suffering much loss.
“As we celebrate we are proud of this special needs family. Ten years feels like forever, but also so short.”
Ambassador for Daniel and Friends Michelle Gildenhuys Adams described the event as a day of unconditional love.
“This is our most inclusive day where we can truly feel the heartbeat of what Daniel and Friends is all about. Celebrating our differences, creating awareness for differently abled children, and remembering our little Angels in Heaven.”
