A horrific fire swept through OK Furniture store in Bellville
this morning.
It is said an unknown number of men were working on the roof
of the building, when the fire struck, and the cause is not yet known at this
stage.
The store, situated in Kruskal Avenue, opposite the
Middestad Mall, was totally destroyed during the inferno.
Theo Lane, Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue spokesperson, says
that although only the OK Furniture store was ravaged by the fire, Russells and
Bradlows Furniture stores were affected, to a lesser extent. All these stores
occupy the same building as OK Furniture.
“We do not, at this stage, know what caused the fire, but we
do know that the men working on the ceiling were using a blow torch,” Layne
says.
In a video making rounds on social media, a couple of people
are seen removing a few furniture items that were not destroyed in the fire.
However, it could not be established whether they were
looting the items or not.
