The Ruyterwacht Islamic Society is spearheading a fundraising campaign to purchase the property opposite Masjidul Ameer, aiming to expand its activities and services to accommodate the growing Muslim community in the Goodwood area.

Community members and supporters are encouraged to contribute to this noble cause, either by reaching out to the listed contacts or directly transferring their ‘sadaqah’ (charity).

“This fundraising effort falls under the category of ‘sadaqah jariyah’, or continuous charity, which contributes to long-term benefits for the community,” says Nabeel Jackson Rhoda, a dedicated congregation member. He states that as highlighted by a prophetic statement from the authentic collection of Imam Tirmidhi: “When a person dies, all their good deeds come to an end except three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, and righteous offspring who will pray for them.”

The Ruyterwacht Islamic Society’s initiative aligns perfectly with this concept, offering donors a chance to secure their share in an enduring and influential cause. By supporting the mosque’s expansion plans, contributors can help create a lasting legacy that will benefit future generations.

“Masjidul Ameer has been a cornerstone of the Ruyterwacht community for three decades, originally starting from a doctor’s surgery before evolving into its current form. As the local Muslim population grows, there is a pressing need to expand the mosque’s facilities to better serve the community’s spiritual, educational, and social needs,” says Rhoda.

To support this initiative, the community has been actively involved in various fundraising activities. These include food sales, private donations, and envelope drives, where families contribute on behalf of their loved ones, both living and departed. Rhoda emphasised the importance of this expansion: “Our mosque has been the heart of our community for many years. By securing this property, we can enhance our services and provide a better space for everyone.” – Jo Sekepane
