Parow police on Thursday arrested four suspects in Elsies River who were involved in a business robbery in Parow last week Wednesday.

According to police spokesperson Captain Kevin Williams, the men robbed a Shell garage in Dakar Street, Parow Valley.

“They requested R50 petrol. One of the suspects paid with a R200 note. The attendants walked to the office to get change from the till and one of the suspects followed the attendant and pointed him with a firearm.”

He says five men were inside the store and robbed the garage of R5000 and fled the scene.

The vehicle registration which was given to the investigating officer was on an Isuzu bakkie.

The mechanic was found in the ceiling of the workshop.

“The owner of the vehicle used in the business robbery was found at a residence in Elsies River. She confirmed to the police that she is the owner of the vehicle but said the bakkie is at the mechanic for repairs,” says Williams.

He says the woman knows nothing about the incident.

The police then visited the mechanic at his home, where he was not found.

The following day a team of Parow detectives tracing with help of the crime prevention unit intensified their search of the suspects, says Williams.

“The mechanic was found in the ceiling of the workshop and when interviewed confessed to being part of the robbery. He made a written confession alluding to the robbery,” says Williams.

He says the other suspects were also arrested when they were identified as accomplices.

“Parow police management acknowledges the sterling work that led the arrest of the suspects.”

Police continue to investigate.
