Acting on critical intelligence, Milnerton police officers swooped on the former police captain last Thursday 20 November, in Table View, where he had been living undetected for more than two decades, on the run from the law.
The 54-year-old had been wanted since 2002 in connection with multiple serious offences, including alleged rape and sexual assault recorded across several provinces. Over the years warrants had been issued for his arrest in three Mpumalanga towns, Nelspruit, Secunda and Middelburg, yet he avoided detection until now.
Two decades of evasion brought to an end
According to long-standing police records the suspect was wanted in connection with nine rape cases committed in those towns. Despite the extensive list of allegations he successfully concealed his whereabouts, quietly living in Table View.
“For years he had slipped through the cracks, avoiding detection and evading accountability,” said Capt Frederick C van Wyk, provincial police spokesperson.
Last week, armed with new intelligence, Milnerton police officers moved swiftly. Decisive operational steps were taken to locate the suspect at a residence in Sunningdale, where he was arrested without incident. Police confirmed this marked the end of his prolonged run from justice.
Suspect to appear in court
The former wearer of the police uniform appeared in the Cape Town Regional Court on Friday 28 November, where he faced charges related to the above-mentioned long-pending cases.
The police reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that no matter how much time had passed alleged offenders, especially those accused of violent crimes, would be pursued until they were brought before the courts.
