A total of 14 food kitchens within Ward 19 (Kalkfontein, Wesbank) received food donations at a distribution event held at Kalkfontein Community Hall on Tuesday 10 December.
“With the help of sponsors and individuals we hope to bring a smile and fill empty tummies in homes where many of our residents are struggling daily to put food on the table,” said Ward councillor Ebrahim Sawant.
“This year we are extremely happy to have received 900 kg of rice donated by the Taipei Liaison office, procured by member of parliament Andrew Bateman who serves in the finance portfolio.”
Sawant said another annual sponsor, Rejeanne Vlietman from the Waterfront Company, donated food packs that came from Sea Harvest to 200 seniors.
“We are also supplementing the bulk food donations to each of the food kitchens to distribute in their communities – such as meat, vegetables and groceries.
“I wish all of Ward 19’s residents a happy, healthy and peaceful festive season and blessings to all who make it possible for those less fortunate to also celebrate with their children,” Sawant said.
