A large vegetation fire broke out on Melkbos Hill on Thursday
(17 November) and strong southeasterly winds are fueling it, making it hard to extinguish.

So says Theo Layne, spokesperson for the City of Cape Town’s
Fire and Rescue Services.

“We received the call at 14:45. There are currently three
water tankers and three fire engines on the site. Strong southeasterly winds
are making it quite difficult to extinguish the fire at this time,” Layne says.

He adds the fire is spread over rough terrain, adding to the
level of difficulty in managing the blaze.

“It is basically bush that is burning.”
