There are just a few days left to submit nominations for the 2025 Neighbourhood Watch Awards, with entries closing this Friday, 31 October.

The annual event recognises and celebrates excellence in community safety and crime prevention. The public is encouraged to nominate outstanding individuals, teams or organisations that have made a meaningful impact through their neighbourhood watch work.

Nomination forms are available in all three official languages and must include supporting evidence such as photos, affidavits, social media posts, or news articles.

They amplify the reach of the safety and security directorate and this is an opportunity to show our appreciation and gratitude.

“Our neighbourhood watches provide a visible presence and offer a sense of security and peace of mind to many of our residents. The awards shine a light on their commitment and hard work. The awards ceremony will take place at the Cape Town Civic Centre on 22 November 2025.

Categories for individual members include:

-Neighbourhood Watch Member of the Year – for outstanding commitment to protecting people and property

-Organisational Excellence – for exceptional management within a NW

-Mobiliser of the Year – for uniting and mobilising community members

-Inspiration of the Year – for inspiring leadership across Watches

-Crime Fighter of the Year – for dedication in the fight against crime

-Courage in Action – for bravery and consistent service in difficult conditions

Categories for organisations/Watches include:

-Neighbourhood Watch of the Year – for outstanding community protection

-Situational Crime Prevention Award – for proactive steps in keeping environments clean and safe

-Social Responsibility Award – for addressing social challenges and promoting community unity

-Courage in Action Award – for operating under high-risk conditions

-Disaster Relief Contributor of the Year – for exceptional support during disaster response efforts

-Best Utilisation of Technology Award – for smart, innovative safety solutions

Nominees must be accredited with the provincial Department of Police Oversight and Community Safety or have an application for accreditation in progress.

Nominations must be emailed to: nwawards@capetown.org.za; or use the online nomination form via the City of Cape Town’s website. Each nomination must have its own form – multiple nominations are allowed
