There are still a few spots open for teams to participate in the annual Mitchells Plain Local Football Association’s annual Cubs Festival for u-6, u-8, u-10 and girls u-12 teams.
With more than 90 teams already signed up for the tournament, organisers are hoping to host 100 local teams across the age groups this year.
Gilbert Kruger, LFA chair, says this tournament is important not only for the players but for the existence of clubs.

“In our LFA, we have clubs that are 40 years old, 45 years old because they have this natural progression from one division to the next because the players will always come through.
“They might not stay with the same club, but they have to move to another club and continue playing in that particular age group.
“So it’s very important. It’s very important to start when you are young,” he says.
The tournament will take place at Strandfontein Sports Field from Friday 4 to Sunday 6 April across several fields at once.
Prizes
Participating teams already registered represent Mitchells Plain, Rygate, Heideveld, Tygerberg, Athlone, Bothasig and Philippi among others.
There is around R60 000 in cash and prizes up for grabs.
Cost per team is R600 and entry will close on Friday 28 March.
