A man claiming to be the father of a woman whose body was found in the dunes in Wolfgat Nature reserve has threatened vengeance by fire.

A video circulating on social media shows the man who identifies himself as Francois Swartz “die pa van Clare Swartz wat hulle hier doodgemaak het agter Hugeunot”.

In the video, Swartz threatens fiery vengeance because four of the six men arrested in connection with his daughter’s death were released due to lack of evidence last Friday.

Ek gat die hele plek, die Mitchell’s Plain, tot op die media, aan die brand steek,” he says standing in front flames burning in the street while police keep an eye on proceedings in the background.

When someone off camera shouts out in support, Swartz replies: “Ons gaan die hele plek aan die brand steek, my broer, die hele f***ken plek!

Swartz claims that the men laughed in his face as they exited the court.

According to Mitchell’s Plain station commander Brigadier Brian Muller the men were released but the investigation is ongoing and they may be rearrested once the detectives receive the results of pending DNA tests.

Muller said the other two suspects are still in custody because blood was found on their clothes and shoes which were taken in as evidence.

“We are therefore awaiting the lab results to link all the accused to the case. We are also waiting on the pathologist to confirm if the victim was raped,” Muller said.

According to Muller the boyfriend of Swartz was with her when they were attacked. He was seriously injured and admitted to hospital but he could not identify any of Swartz’s killers.

Swartz’s body was found on 21 August behind Hugeunot Primary School.
