A musical journey that transcends generations and genres

Musical duo Ferg ‘n Son is set to hit the Eastern and Western Cape this December with their “It’s in the Blood” tour.

The duo comprises Fergie Ferguson, the voice behind the smash 80s hit “Man on the Moon” with legendary band Ballyhoo, and his son Michael Ferguson, a multi-talented guitarist and vocalist.

Blending pop, rock, country and timeless classics, this genre-crossing duo delivers an unforgettable live experience that keeps audiences coming back for more. Together, their musical chemistry is undeniable, fusing soulful melodies, crowd-favourite covers and infectious energy that has captured hearts worldwide.

Now they’re bringing that same electric energy home with a coastal summer tour. Expect high-energy shows, a repertoire packed with hits, and a musical journey spanning generations and genres.

From Belfast to Ballyhoo

Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Fergie began his musical journey at a young age, playing guitar and singing in various show bands.

Turning professional at just 18, he secured a contract to perform with an Irish show band in South Africa in the early 1970s. He went on to become a founding member of supergroup Ballyhoo – a name synonymous with success in the South African music industry.

Their mega-hit single “Man on the Moon” topped the charts in 1981. Ballyhoo recorded four original studio albums, earning six SARI Awards, with one going platinum and securing their place among the country’s greatest rock ‘n roll acts.

A new generation

Fergie watched his talented son Michael grow into his musical heritage as a successful musician in his own right. In 2024, they joined forces to found Ferg ‘n Son. Within nine months, the duo has already performed across South Africa and toured Europe in July.

Fergie currently resides in the North West Province, running a studio at Hartbeespoort Dam as a writer and music producer. Michael, who lives in Austria, has just released a brand new single titled “A Million & One”.

Family bond on stage

Speaking about the tour, Michael says: “I grew up watching my dad perform with Ballyhoo and was always in awe. At eight years old, I got up on stage to sing with them because I wanted to be part of it.

” I never thought that years later we’d be doing these dream duo shows together. It’s such an honour, not only as his son but as a performer, to play alongside my father – the one who gave me music. We’ve been performing together for about nine months now, and I can’t wait to share this incredible musical bond with audiences across SA.”

Fergie adds: “It’s going to be brilliant being on the road with my son. We’re excited to meet you all at these fantastic venues. Special thanks to our sponsor ChainEX for making this extensive tour possible.”
