A father and son from Burgundy Estate have appeared in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court after being caught with abalone worth R1 million.
Hawks spokesperson, Captain Lloyd Ramovha, says their arrest forms part of an operation dubbed “Rambo Raids” and the duo were arrested in their Burgundy Estate home.
He says officers of the Hawks and the police’s K9 unit followed up on information which resulted in the seizure of 6 496 units of abalone found stashed in a car parked in the estate’s parking lot.
The father has been given R50 000 bail and the son received R5 000 bail.
