Fallen Angels Pet Rescue in Melkbosstrand is appealing to the public to foster one of its dogs or cats for a few months.

Fallen Angels Pet Rescue in Melkbosstrand is appealing to the public to foster one of its dogs or cats for a few months.

The rescue centre is facing the daunting task of relocating its beloved animal care centre following a recent zoning decision by the City of Cape Town.

TygerBurger reported last week (“Fallen Angels Pet Rescue in Melkbosstrand forced to vacate site”, 13 November) the organisation received word from the City that their application for a Special Consent Use Permit had been denied.

The property’s proximity to the Koeberg Nuclear Power Station, within a regulated 5 km zone, makes the rescue centre ineligible for its intended use. The City’s decision has left Fallen Angels Pet Rescue with no option but to vacate its current location.

“We are going to apply for a time extension so hoping to be able to move next year,” said co-founder Gayl Basson, “but need to be pro-active and start removing a few dog camps and structures slowly over the next few months while we are applying for Special Consent Use to run an animal care centre on our co-founders other land just outside of Langebaan.

Gabriel is a 10-year-old boy who’s had a tough past, but is still full of love to give. Rescued from a heartbreaking situation in 2019, when a chain was embedded in his neck, he has physical and emotional scars, but his gentle nature shines through. He’s a calm and loving companion who adores human affection, always ready for a hug or a gentle scratch.

Meet Pippa (6) and Penny (4), two sweet little ladies looking for their forever home. These adorable Yorkies have lost their previous home and are ready to start a new chapter, full of love, adventure and cuddles.

Meet Toby, a sweet and loving 8-year-old West Highland White Terrier who is looking for a new home. He needs a loving and responsible family who can give him the attention, care and companionship he deserves.

Leo is a 4-year-old fluffy, spunky love bug who is ready to capture your heart. Leo is male, incredibly handsome and smallish in size. He’s hoping to find a forever home where he can shine as the centre of attention – ideally as the only dog, though he could potentially share his space with one other doggie companion.

Beauty is a very pretty, sweet and fun girl with loads of energy. She is female, about 4 years old, on the smaller side of medium in size and good with other dogs. Beauty enjoys playing ball and is a great cuddler. She would suit an active household where she will be included in lots of walks and adventures. Beauty is a bit of an escape artist so needs a secure home.

“This property is our only option at the moment as we do not have the time to wait for this one to sell, then buy another and only then start applying for special consent.”

To do this the organisation is in need of empty camps. “Some of our older dogs would really love to spend Christmas with you and your family,” said Basson.

What will be covered

  • Medical bills covered by arrangement;
  • introductions with current pets done;
  • home checks apply.

“Another day of meetings, emails and phone calls, and we can definitely say we are going to appeal the City of Cape Town’s decision.

“Through this process, however, we have become aware of the fact that the animals in our care will be in jeopardy in the event of an emergency at Koeberg, and this, however, now plays heavily on our minds as well.

“We are blessed to have access to another base property but this is vacant land, and still remains uncertain.”

Keeping our animals safe and our foster drive to house some of our animals in this uncertain time is what we are currently working on. Please contact us if you can assist in any way at all.”
