The Goodwood Spiritual Crime Prevention Forum successfully hosted the Tygerberg Sub-District Spiritual Crime Prevention Meeting at Every Nation Church on Thursday.

The gathering brought together members of the police, church leaders, community stakeholders, and spiritual crime prevention representatives – all standing united in prayer and action for safer neighbourhoods.

Reverend Jerry Louw from the spiritual crime prevention unit described the meeting as a powerful time of connection.

“We had a powerful Tygerberg Sub-District Monthly Meeting, hosted by Goodwood SCP at Every Nation Church. It was a blessing to connect with police and the spiritual crime prevention team, standing together for safer communities.

“We trust the Lord to bring lasting reform, for His Word reminds us: ‘Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labour in vain.’ – Psalm 127:1. Together in prayer and action, we believe God is shaping a future of peace and restoration.”

Community safety

Minda Maritz, chief librarian at Goodwood Library, highlighted the important role libraries play in community safety.

“Thank you for the invitation to this meeting and affording me the opportunity to create awareness of the role of the library in the community. I was truly impressed by how well organised the Spiritual Crime Prevention committee is as well as how many Christian leaders dedicate their time to assist victims and police officers.

“Whilst the image of the police is often damaged, it was good to see that there are still good police officers, committed to service, but also depending on God. The libraries, as I explained yesterday, provide safe spaces for children, with programmes, storytelling and other activities to keep them safe and off the streets.”

Collaboration

The event not only strengthened ties between the police, churches, and the community, but also served as a reminder that collaboration and faith play a vital role in building safer communities.

The Tygerberg Sub-District Spiritual Crime Prevention meeting is hosted monthly by one of the twelve precincts of SAPS and its Spiritual Crime Prevention Forum.

This means that Goodwood host once a year this meeting and was held at the Every Nation Church at N1 City. The Spiritual Crime Prevention is a new entity that is internally part of police.

“Goodwood Police Station has this forum structure in place which is led by police coordinator Sgt Fortune, Reverend Jerry Nico Louw, as the chair, our deputy chair, Pastor Dries Potgieter, secretary, Ilze Stemmet, deputy secretary, Amanda Goniwe, Treasurer, Pastor Matthieu Kudamana, PRO, Selaelo Arendse, Representatives from Goodwood Fraternal.

“This meeting aims afforded the opportunity for the Goodwood Spiritual Crime Prevention Forum to demonstrate the work they have been doing over the year and the harmonious relationship with Goodwood police. Col Roux was in attendance to confirm this harmony,”says Reverend Jerry Nico Louw.

Various activities have been announced at the meeting by various Police Stations e.g. Brackenfell, Bellville South, Durbanville, Mfuleni, Kraaifontein, Kuilsriver, Kleinvlei, Parow. The next meeting will take place in Kleinvlei.
