An
elderly man of Stellenberg is still recuperating from knife wounds after saving
his neighbour from three armed robbers.
The
incident occurred at a complex in Stellenberg, situated along the N1 and the
Kuils River Flood Plain, on Tuesday afternoon just after 17:30.
According
to chair of the Stellenberg Neighbourhood Watch Jacques Rabie, residents
received an urgent cry for help on the complex’s emergency WhatsApp group.
“The three suspects had gained access to the complex and were robbing an
elderly lady of her necklace and bangles at gunpoint,” he related. “One of the
assailants also had a knife on him.”
“An
elderly gentleman came to her aid, but received stab wounds in the process. A
shot was fired and the attackers fled into the Flood Plain area under the R300
bridge.”
Numerous
security companies, neighbourhood-watch members and police officers rushed to
the scene and immediately began a search for the suspects. The three men were
subsequently arrested, just before 20:00, and positively identified by the
victim.
The
stab victim was rushed to hospital and treated for minor wounds.
“A
spent cartridge was found on the scene of the attack,” Rabie said. “On
inspection it was established that the round fired was a blank.”
