Metrorail says it is pleased that the number of passengers using the train from Eerste River is picking up fast.
This after the station had been closed since the beginning of March 2020 due to lockdown restrictions. Before the closure thousands of commuters used the line to get to their places of work.
According to Zinobulali Mihi, acting marketing and communication manager of Prasa, the numbers are very pleasing.
“The service on the Eerste River line went very well as the passenger numbers are very pleasing, increasing daily. The acting regional manager, Raymond Maseko, myself and other team members went on a trip this Tuesday from Eerste River to Bellville on a normal yellow train and took another train trip on board the People’s Train from Bellville to Cape Town.
“During the train trips, we engaged with customers whilst we collaborated with stakeholders such as Metropolitan, that distributed calendars to the customers. Customers were very excited by the gesture. On the trip, we were also joined by social media influencers that were organised by Lorenzo Davids under the banner of #YoungUrbanists,” says Mihi.
Mihi says the service is long overdue. “The communities, customers and stakeholders have been making numerous requests to have it re-instated as it is not only beneficial to them in terms of cost but boosts the economy of the province as well. I am not aware of attempts to sabotage the service. Overall, the Eerste River service is going smoothly,” says Mihi.
