Eerste River school boy stabbed and killed

Grade 11 learner stabbed on school grounds.

An Eerste River Secondary School learner was stabbed and killed this morning at the school during second break.

Kleinvlei police spokesperson, Captain Florina Muller, confirmed the incident and said police are now investigating the murder.

According to Western Cape Education Department spokesperson Paddy Attwell the school reported that Grade11 learner, Zydren Raymond, died at the school after being stabbed in the neck.

“The incident occurred while learners were returning to class after a break, according to the school. However we do not have details yet on what might have led to the altercation,” Attwell says.

He says the school alerted the ambulance services, the police and the Safe Schools call centre.

“Our thoughts are with Zydren, his family and friends at this difficult time. The department will arrange trauma counselling, as required,” Attwell adds.

The principal of the school Wilbur Olivier, says the school is not obliged to give comment now as they first need to liaise with the education department regarding the incident.
