The Bothasig community and fellow runners rallied behind the 89-year-old Cesar DeOliveira from Edgemead recently when he reached an “incredible milestone” in his running career after only starting taking part in the sport in 2017.
Mario Borchards, chair of the Bothasig Residents Association (BRA), says residents from the area came together on Saturday 29 March to support Cesar who reached an incredible milestone by completing his 250th Park Run. The run took place at Century City.
“This achievement was especially moving, as it came shortly after the heartbreaking loss of his son and previous BRA committee member, Christopher DeOliveira.
“Despite this, Cesar’s resilience and spirit truly shone through on the day. The BRA and residents wanted to share this special moment with Cesar because we knew Chris would have been right next to his dad.
“We all miss Chris, he was a dear friend to many,” says Borchards.
He added that Cesar started his running journey at the age of 81 years and that he continues to inspire all with his determination and positive outlook.
In July last year TygerBurger reported on Cesar’s running career.
Back then his late son Chris explained that it was an honour for him to run with his father. Both father and son belong to the Edgemead Runners.
Cesar recently told the newspaper that he still continues to run and that he still enjoys the sport.
