“Stop the obsession of being power hungry by resorting to violence when it comes to women.”
This is what Western Cape Social Development MEC Albert Fritz says following the murder of a Delft woman who was allegedly beaten to death with a spade by her boyfriend. The bludgeoned body of 23-year-old Cynthia Booysen was found buried in a manhole inside a Wendy house in Delft-South on Sunday afternoon.
“We, as a department, are sick and tired of this ongoing abuse against our women. Every day we read about another woman being murdered and it’s sad.
“Our men must stop thinking that it is ok to be violent or do any act of abuse on our women. The cycle of this type of violence must stop,” says Fritz.
When asked what he thinks triggers these vicious attacks on women, Fritz says: “No excuse could ever justify abusing a woman, and especially murdering one.
“Women who feel they need help to get out of an abusive relationship must approach the department. We will gladly assist.”
Delft police spokesperson Warrant Officer Brian Daniels says 23-year-old Faid Steven appeared in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. He was remanded in custody.
