Residents of Delft recently thought a zombie apocalypse was taking place when a movie production company descended on the neighbourhood.

Community movie production company Touched by Style (TBS) started filming their ninth movie, Stress. The actors in it are drama students from Delft, Ravensmead, Eerste River, Belhar, Elsies River, Westbank and Mitchells Plain.

According to Nic Matthee of TBS the community was excited to see themselves shown in a positive light. “We do these movies to give young people with talent the opportunity to work and gain experience in the industry,” he said. “We have unearthed many talented actors during the production of this movie.”

Duhline Moloto, who plays forceful, work-driven supervisor Mack de Kock, said the experience was phenomenal. “Most of the scenes felt very real, the movie’s blood tastes like cherry sugar and the fake explosions of the firearms were very cool,” he said.

Moloto, an actor in the Skagboy TikTok series, said action films were new to him and it had always been his dream to be part of a TBS production.

Samantha Hector, who plays a policewoman who has to save learners from a mass murderer, said playing her role felt as if she was in a real scenario.

“The scene where my character takes the murderer out was a highlight for me.”

Matthee, an award winning community developer, said he had a responsibility to assist and mature hidden talent in the community and expose them to filmmaking. “Opportunities are very rare and not easy to obtain,” he pointed out, “but TBS creates these opportunities for all community members.”

The main cast of the movie is Nikita Knowles, Samantha Brink, Courtney Lee Cornelius, Duhline Moloto and Samantha Hector. The film will be released on Friday 6 October.
