Procedures to expel the City of Cape Town’s executive mayor have begun.
TygerBurger has been reliably informed by three independent, trusted sources that City of Cape Town mayor, Patricia de Lille, has been handed a letter notifying her that she has to defend herself against being expelled from the party.
De Lille was implicated in a leak of falsified documents to a Sunday newspaper involving her aide, Josh Jordaan, and the City’s chief whip, Shaun August. The falsified documents pertain to August and a colleague, Matthew Kempthorne, and their admission of guilt to allegations of corruption involving T-shirt procurement during last year’s local elections.
The news came on Monday evening (20 February) that the DA’s federal legal commission was investigating this leak to Rapport.
The party has sent De Lille a letter which indicates their intention to take disciplinary action and it states their intention to expel her.
Josh Jordaan has resigned since the leak to Rapport, but DA insiders confirmed to TygerBurger he still procedurally has to be removed as an official employee of the City of Cape Town.
The sources also revealed the incident surrounding the leakwas a violation of the DA constitution and their caucus rules.
When asked by TygerBurger about the letter, James Selfe, chairman of the DA’s federal executive committee, denied all information about the letter.
