Dagga worth R3m seized in Table View

“The dagga was in large boxes, numerous glass jars and other containers. Numerous amounts had been packaged and vacuum sealed for distribution.”

In the early hours of Thursday morning Table View police attended to a domestic violence complaint, but instead ended up making a huge dagga bust.

According to a provincial police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, a woman and her child were allegedly assaulted.

“The complainant (woman) indicated to police that she would show them where the perpetrator was and they went to a security complex on the corners of Sandown Drive and Wood Street in Sandown Estate, Table View, where she pointed out the flat.”

Van Wyk says at around 01:00 police members went looking for the perpetrator at the flat, where they were told by a male occupant that the suspect was not there.

The couple is set to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.

“Police asked permission to enter the flat to make sure (the suspect) was indeed not there, and the man agreed. Upon searching the flat, the members recovered a huge amount of dried hydroponic dagga in one of the bedrooms.

“The dagga was in large boxes, numerous glass jars and other containers. Numerous amounts had been packaged and vacuum sealed for distribution.”

Scales and vacuum sealers were also found in the apartment. In one of the bathrooms smaller amounts of dagga were also seized, says Van Wyk.

He also added that two people, a man aged 33 and his wife, aged 28, were arrested.

“It appears that the dagga was imported and then packaged at the flat from where it was distributed. Provincial organised crime unit detectives were also on the scene and are still busy with investigations.”

The couple is set to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (Friday 11 August).

“This is Women’s Month, and crimes against women and children remain a priority to the Western Cape SAPS all year round. Perpetrators of these crimes will be hunted down mercilessly to face the full might of the law,” says Van Wyk.
