Table View police have uncovered a hydroponic dagga lab inside a complex in Parklands. According to a report two people have been arrested following a fire in Ruskin Road on Thursday.
Police spokesperson Captain Adriana Chandler says Constable Nzimeni Nondlwana and partner were doing patrols when they received a complaint of a flat on fire in Ruskin Road, Parklands.
When the officers arrived at the scene a security company was helping the owner to extinguish the fire.
“Upon further investigation a strong odour could be smelt. The officers identified the smell as that off cannabis sativa (dagga). The odour was coming from another flat in the complex.”
She says the officers knocked on the door and the occupant opened up. They also noticed the window was broken, which was apparently caused by the fire. Nondlwana noticed an ashtray with dagga rolled into paper and a small parcel of dagga.
“The officer asked permission to search the flat and it was granted. The search revealed more dagga found in black bags. One of the bedrooms was transformed into a hydroponic lab – an area used for the manufacturing of the dagga. Another bedroom revealed the same conditions.”
Eight dagga plants and packaged dagga weighing more than 2kg was discovered. The male occupant, aged 47, was arrested by the officer. Later on the same day another occupant (female, 49) of the flat returned home and was also arrested.
Both suspects will appear in court on Monday.
