Curro Brackenfell marked a significant milestone on 17 October, as the school community gathered for its 10-year birthday assembly, celebrating a decade of educational growth.
The morning event brought together learners, staff, parents, and special guests from Curro head office to commemorate the school’s transformation from its humble beginnings in 2015 to where it is today.
The past is kind enough to give you lessons. The present is kind enough to give you opportunities. The future is kind enough to give you both.
Head of school Suzanne Smit delivered the keynote address, reflecting on the school’s journey.
“The past is kind enough to give you lessons. The present is kind enough to give you opportunities. The future is kind enough to give you both,” she said to the assembly.
In a touching moment that highlighted the school’s lasting impact, two former learners who spoke at the very first assembly in 2015 reconnected with their alma mater.
Andrea Jacobs, now 21, returned in person to share how the school helped shape her confidence.
Her fellow Grade 5 classmate from that inaugural day, Somila Chabula, contributed a heartfelt video message from afar, expressing gratitude for the role Curro Brackenfell played in his personal development and success.
Celebration of leadership
The celebration also recognised the leadership of executive head JP le Roux, who has guided the school since September 2023.
Under his vision, Curro Brackenfell achieved a major milestone with the launch of its long-awaited high school, bringing renewed energy and pride to the campus. As the school enters its second decade, the administration emphasised its continued commitment to the core values of care, courage, and connection that have defined its educational approach.The 10-Year Birthday Assembly served not only as a reflection on past achievements but as a reaffirmation of Curro Brackenfell’s mission to shape futures, one learner at a time, as it looks toward continued growth and excellence in the years ahead.
The assembly also celebrated the leadership of JP le Roux, executive head since September 2023, whose vision has ushered in a bold new chapter for the school. Under his guidance, Curro Brackenfell launched its long-awaited high school.
Looking ahead to the next decade, Smit noted that Curro Brackenfell will continue to uphold its founding principles of care, courage, and connection.
