Cubana in Blouberg was hit by armed robbers over the weekend and robbers allegedly locked the staff in a room.
According to a report from Table View police, officers were called to the scene on Sunday (19 February) shortly after 10:00.
Police spokesperson, Captain Adriana Chandler, says the officers interviewed an employee who informed them that three men, one armed with a firearm approached him inside the premises at about 07:30.
“The complainant ran to press the panic button, but was grabbed by one of the suspects and forced him to the ground, threatening him with the firearm. After rummaging through the tills, the suspects took the victim to a room and locked the door. A few moments later, the suspects brought more victims to the room and locked the door again.”
She says after about 30 minutes, the staff locked inside the room heard their colleagues working on the day shift arrive and started shouting for help. They were freed and immediately pressed the panic button.
Chandler says the suspects fled the scene with cash, cellphones and liquor.
“No one was injured during the incident and no shots were fired. The staff was very traumatised and was offered victim support.”
