The Bothasig Community Policing Forum (CPF) this week released the latest crime trends for the area. The trends covers the area within the Bothasig police precinct.

According to the information shared by the CPF house burglaries has shown a decrease, while arrests for the possession of stolen property has increased in both Bothasig and Richwood.

There has been an increase in other crimes, despite the improved police visibility across the precinct.

Commercial Crime for instance is still a concern, especially in Edgemead, and petty theft is also still problematic throughout the precinct, the CPF says.

The CPF says malicious damage to property has increased, and that drug related arrests have also been on the rise.

Robbery is becoming a problem throughout the Tygerberg police subdistrict, and residents have been requested not to walk alone early hours or late at night.

Work is being done to curb the increases.

The CPF says the Bothasig police Crime Prevention Unit is making a positive difference, boosting visibility, increasing arrests, and enhancing responsiveness, while the Community Safety Plan remains active, focusing on patrol visibility, proactive policing, collaboration, and community cooperation.

The festive season readiness safety interventions have started, and the CPF and police continue to work hand-in-hand, strengthening communication, coordination, and community partnerships, the CPF says.

“Residents are urged to stay alert, secure their belongings, and report any suspicious activity or crime immediately, as we approach the silly season,” the organisation concludes.
