In the lead up towards the festive season, the Table View police had an exhibition and crime awareness drive at Bayside Mall in Table View last Wednesday (15 November).

They interacted with community members who visited the mall and shared important information with a view to raising awareness of crimes affecting the community of Table View.

They distributed pamphlets on crimes such as substance abuse, domestic violence, sexual offences, children’s rights and robberies.

“Officers also assisted with the certification of copies and writing of affidavits,” said Table View police spokesperson Capt Adriana Chandler.

Police also recruited victim-support volunteers and displayed police paraphernalia. Community in Blue representative Guy Kukard assisted Chandler, the corporate communications officer and social-crimes officer Const Desire Motla.

Table View’s new station commander Col Tjikamba Mbangu appealed to the community to be especially vigilant when visiting public places, such as beaches and shopping centres, and ensure their personal belongings are kept safe.

“When parking a vehicle make sure valuable items are secured and not left in sight, that your vehicle is locked and the alarm activated,” he said. “Be alert to your surroundings when approaching any intersection, make sure your doors are locked and windows closed, with valuables such as handbag and cellphone locked away in the boot of the vehicle. Report suspicious activity to your local neighbourhood watch, security company and police.”
